If the Tigers are, indeed, better than this, why aren't they playing like it?

This does appear to be an issue of complacency. The attitude of "we know we are so good that we don't even have to try" is becoming apparent - at the club level anyway - up and down the bench is a different story.

Even with Boesche's two run homer yesterday - I still say he has the toughest job in the American League - who else is up right before 2 consecutive potential AL hitting champs (supposed to be anyways) - Boesch is seeing the toughest pitches every at bat - he's the guy in the line they see as the guy they have to get out.

He does remind me of a young Kaline

That explains his .230 average.
