Could It Be Ozzie Time Again For The Red Wings?

The Red Wings loss to Vancouver Wednesday was disturbing. I don't recall a game in which the opposing team continually got behind the Red Wings' defense like that. I don't know if it would be fair to put the loss on goaltender Jimmy Howard, but it wasn't like he stepped forward, either. Getting pulled like that could be significant. I do wonder if Chris Osgood will get an opportunity. It could be Ozzie's late-career M.O. t0 play poorly most of the season and then come on just in time for the playoffs. That team needs to wake up. It was sure asleep Wednesday. And time is no longer on the Red Wings side.

Random Thoughts

- No LenDale White for the Lions. He was tendered by the Titans as a restricted free agent and would cost the Lions a second-round draft choice to get him. That is not happening. Still think the Lions would benefit from a bigger every down back.

- I took a long look at The Palace when I was there Tuesday, and it really hit home just how much nicer a venue it is than Joe Louis Arena. The lower-level suites, the wide concourses, the restaurants. Just much nicer. Couldn't help but thinking what a cash cow it would be for the Red Wings in comparison to Joe Louis. It would be naive to think they haven't thought the same thing.

Pat,
You're from Oakland County and the Palace may be convenient for you to get to. But the Red Wings base is Downriver and across the river. How many of them are going to drive to Auburn Hills in the course of a season in this economy? Just asking.

No, I don't think it's Ozzie's time anymore, Pat. While never a superstar goalie, he did have some excellent seasons(2009 playoffs, for sure)when with a GOOD team. Notice when he left for St Louis and the Islanders-both averrage to poor teams- he did not have good results. Any goalie can get hot now and then, and I believe Ozzie benefitted from strong Wing teams in the good years. He was never a "carry the team" type goalie. like Brodeur, Patrick Roy, etc.

Off the topic:
The Detroit Sports Experience (and all sports experience by TV or Radio) is created/nurtured by the sportscaster. If the Ticket spends so much time talking about the 6th round draft pick of the Lions or the 2nd year draft prospect of a college basketball team why would you not talk about Sportscasters at all? As an all things sports forum, how could you not address this central element? Larry Murphy was a long-time defender but is a god-aweful sportscaster. FSDetroit should hear "The Ticket" on the matter don't you think? Vallenti is right about "Dickey V" but he is a rhetorical bully and there has not been an educated discussion on the requirements of the "Central Experience Provider" like you would/could mediate. What do you think?
