My columns on Tigers clinching AL Central and Lions victory over the Jets
My column. Tigers' AL Central title will mean little if it doesn't lead to postseason success. http://www.theoaklandpress.com/sports/20140928/pat-caputo-al-central-title-means-little-unless-detroit-tigers-turn-it-into-postseason-success
My column. Hopefully a little perspective about the Lions for a change: http://www.theoaklandpress.com/sports/20140928/pat-caputo-hopefully-a-little-perspective-about-the-detroit-lions-for-a-change

You know Pat, I don't question any of these players and how motivated they are or how much they want this.
But over the past 8 seasons since the Tigers found their rebirth through Pudge and Rogers, as well as Verlander and Leyland arriving - it was never a question as to their motivation - but instead since then it's been about how they translate that motivation into offensive explosions.
Many times, the more they want it the quieter the bats get. It's like the pressure flows over the whole dugout and everybody presses at the plate - trying to hard to make something happen. That's when we see the swings at the first pitch the result in weak grounders or popups.
This team always plays it's best ball (every team actually) when they are loose and having fun and instead of feeling the pressure they are applying the pressure.
And these last two weeks for the boys have shown this to be true more often than not - and I really think this Tigers organization so often makes opposing mediocre pitchers look like Cy Young candidates.
It's not the skills of hitting. It's not the skills of defense - or pitching (yeah even the bullpen) - it's this inability to make chasing this dream seem fun instead of stressful.
That's my take anyways.
