On LaRussa blunder and World Series
Tony LaRussa has a great record, and I probably shouldn't feel this way given that record, but "his genius" has often been overdone. Talk about overthinking the situation.
If the Cardinals lose to the Rangers in this series, it will be a long time before he lives it down. Yeah, and he's getting schooled in this series by Ron Washington, who has done excellent job of leading the Rangers the entire postseason.
It has been a terrific World Series so far. And yes, I do see a Game 7, even as well as Colby Lewis has pitched for the Rangers in the postseason. I see the Rangers winning that Game 7. Just their time. I think that was evident in the ALCS against the Tigers.

game 5 was tremendous. the image of beltre going down on one knee as he launched that hr was a memorable one. back and forth strategic moves by the managers, several that were controversial.
had a sense that the game was stacked against the cards when they couldn't pad their early lead. matt holliday just didn't make them pay for pitching around pujols.
LaRussa thought he was a chess grandmaster playing Deep Blue.... but Ron Washington was playing dominoes, and won.
In general, I find LaRussa comical. "We don't throw people under the bus here"....which was exactly what he was doing if he wasn't going to accept the blame.
I'll take one Washington over 5 Larusa's anyday.
The opening scene of Game 5 - Washington having final words with Holland before he takes the mound - Washington has hands on Holland's shoulders talking to him like Dad talks to Son - Holland eyes huge - listening - mouth slightly agape - and head nodding as Washington talks. One final "You can do it .. Go get 'em" - and Washington tugs on the bill of Hollands cap.
All the sudden they ain't spoiled millionaires and baseball is beautiful again.
Rotten b*stards.
Woody,
The Rangers have great hitters. That's what I'll get the most out of this postseason. Beltre, Cruz, Napol - and that's without Hamilton showing that much HR power.

Core Contrarian,
Couldn't agree with you more. He didn't exactly own up to what was a monumental blunder.

Fred Brill,
You and I sound crazy on this Fred, but I agree. Ron Washington has some off the field problems that were bad, but has distinguished himself since. LaRussa's had some, too, but his record is so great. Well, who has a better record the last two years. Nobody better than Washington if Rangers win WS.

LaRussa is like the sad-sack genious ... he's a wacko.
