It WAS a no-brainer to hold back Verlander to pitch vs. the Rays and not contender Indians. A win vs. Indians meant 2 games in the "magic number". Leyland got away with that move by the skin of his teeth. A loss to Indians and another loss to Rays vs. a really good pitcher was worst-case scenerio.
Let's hope Leyland can keep his head this year at the close and not outthink himself.
Personally, I don't believe that Leyland will have to worry.

Pat, the Tigers also lost the Division due the fact the Twins ran them over. The Twins won something like 19 out of the last 26 games.
Also Leyland lost his mind.
