Pat, I agree they need a starter but not a #5 starter. They need another Ace. Cannot find an Ace then go after Reyes and move JP over to 3B. Tigers do not have a lot of good prospects but the prospects they have are somewhat legit. Why are they taking their time with Turner? He should be pitching AAA and get ready for a September call-up.
Lets hope something does happen before end of the month. But you're bang on right about the disperity between our elite and our not-so-elite.
It's amazing how much the face of this team has changed since 2006 yet they still look the same - except for second base.
I don't really think that there's another ace out on the market right now. So I will be happy with any improvement made in the starting rotation, and maybe Scherzer and Porcello are picking up thier game a bit.
Barry, The Astros have scouted the Tigers extensively, so I presume there might be a possibility there with either Wandy Rodiguez or Brett Myers. But both are major risk because of their contracts, which are expensive and long-term. Caputo
Fred Brill, I keep thinking about the lift the Twins got in 2009 when they acquired Pavano. His ERA with the Indians was over 5.00 at that time. Caputo

Good column Book,
