Pat Caputo is a sports columnist for The Oakland Press. Caputo covered the Tigers from 1986-98, and Lions from 1998-2002 for The Oakland Press before becoming a columnist. Caputo was raised in Birmingham and played baseball and football at Groves High School. His photograph playing high school sports appeared in The Oakland Press. He has won numerous writing awards, including first place in column writing from the Michigan Associated Press and the Michigan Press Association, and from the Detroit Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He has been named among the Top Ten sports columnists in the nation by the Associated Press Sports Editors (APSE), and has won honors in four of the APSE's six national award categories. He has garnered top national honors for his column writing and sports writing from the Local Media Association. Caputo, who has resided in Oakland County since he was nine years old, currently lives in Lake Orion. Caputo has a radio show weeknights and weekends on 97.1 FM, The Ticket, which is the flagship station for the Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. He also appears regularly on FOX 2 television on "SportsWorks."

Pat, Scherzer's inning and a third was huge. Too much pressure for Perry, Schlereth, or Coke. Fister made clutch pitches. The Tigers still haven't blown a lead when leading into the 8th inning, which is hard to believe. Dave
Darn right! Here's the funny thing, SI.com already had the "Tigers Oust the Yankees" page up before the bottom of the ninth! How is that for confidence?
Your right Pat, Yanks had an average batting average and not much for starting pitching after Novi and CC this year. Those weakness would show up against a great team. They do have a great bullpen though.
You guys are funny. That game was won by a razors thin advantage. Yanks won a lot of games this year, and that was not a fluke.
Don't get me wrong, I hate the Yanks but let's not get overzealous. Let's just move on with humility and beat Texas. Fun.
I'm scratching my head now after surviving last nights consecutive pulmonary seizures - as to why in the regular season, the AL East was so dominant over the rest of the league.
That was an amazing game.
But I have to ask - if their bullpen is so superior to our's (which I'm not questioning) - then why did they go to Sabathia ? - in a role he has ever filled before - which cost them the game winning run - instead of going to this amazing bullpen?
Leyland was awesome last night - and that was the difference. And he didn't take the Sabathia bait to put Verlander in.
I can't survive too many more of those games.
