Acquiring Young a great move for Tigers
He had a well-documented incident in the minor leagues with an umpire, but is not a clubhouse lawyer like his brother. He does play hard and respect the game.
For the Twins, it's a money dump. Young is arbitration eligible, and due for a big jump in pay. For the Tigers, it's a player they have under control for another year if they choose. He had 112 RBI last year. He is a proven run producer. It's win-win because he is capable of being the best hitting outfielder on the squad. He's gets on rolls.
But it does leave open the future of Magglio Ordonez with the Tigers. The Tigers have some difficult decisions to make in regard to their roster.

I am quite sure that Mr. Leyland will order an immediate rest period for Mr. Young and only aferwards see if he can get him in the lineup a few times a week splitting time with Raburn, Dirks and Kelly.
Pat, if the Tigers keep Maggs it should be to play against lefties only and as a DH. Strangely enough though Boesch hits lefties better than righties so far in his MLB career. Young is also only 25 year old.
I want to love this trade - but it scares me - Minnesota must really have doubts about this cat to dump him on a division rival. They know something we don't.
Just remember Pat, you loved the Washburn deal last year and the Renteria trade before that...
Pat,
When I look at the tigers in comparison with the other contending teams, it appears that one of their biggest flaws has been their lack of depth. The good teams have guys that come off the bench that are of equal quality to some of the tigers starters. I know that Inge and Maggs's best days are behind them and that Betimet and Young may not be MVP's, but the addition of these players does fill wholes and come september they have proven veterans such as mags and inge to come off the bench in certain situations. For this reason, I think both of the trades have transformed them into a better team. Thoughts?
