Padres relievers on Tigers' radar

I heard from a baseball source (not in Tigers organization) the Tigers are looking at Chad Qualls and Mike Adams, relievers for the Padres. Qualls has a $6 million club option for next year and a buyout for over $1 million Padres want nothing to do with. Adams is arbitration eligible next year. Both are having decent years.

If a Tigers brain trust exists, and I'm not sure about that, maybe they could trade for a new manager. Leyland obviously doesn't know what the hell is going on.

when bell goes, figures that adams would step into the closer role in sd. so qualls should come much cheaper. if sd doesn't want to pay any of his buyout, then they can't demand much of a prospect in return.

the big news of course is the return of guillen and albuquerque. management made a good decision by giving guillen all the time he needed to rehab. it'll be interesting now to see how Leyland will use him. with the trade deadline ahead, they've got to find out quickly how much he's got left. can't really ease him into the lineup, as they might at some other time of the season. expect he'll be in the field 3 games per week.

suspect that avila will begin to get 2 games off a week now, with martinez behind the dish, and guillen at dh.

they may need to make another move soon to DL jackson.
