On Dontrelle, NBA MVP, Tiger And The Foibles Of UM And MSU Football

It's difficult to proclaim Dontrelle Willis "back" when he has allowed 21 base runners in 11 innings and has a 4.91 ERA. The Tigers have won both his starts, but may be living on barrowed time with this particular slot in the rotation.

- LeBron James will probably win the MVP Award this season, but it always becomes a hallow honor if the recepient doesn't perform well during the playoffs, like LeBron, Steve Nash and Kevin Garnett in the past.

- So it appears if Tiger Woods' marriage is over. Anyone surprised? Me neither. Bet the clubs in Vegas are happy about it, though.

- Possible rule violations at West Virginia when Rich Rodriguez was football coach there - seems like the Rich Rodriguez saga is never ending. Always some bad news for Michigan football in this regard; never anything good.

- In the "they never learn" department at Michigan State: Wide receiver Fred Smith, the only four-star recruit in one of head coach Mark Dantonio's early recruiting classes, is back on the football team not long after being released from jail. Smacks of Glenn Winston. The Spartans were short on experienced running backs when Winston was let back on right after leaving jail. They are short on wide receivers and spring practice was going on as Smith re-joined the team. Wrong message - again - from Dantonio.

Pat, DW is on borrow time. I hope he keeps it up because I do not see too much help from AAA. Galarraga did pitch well the other day.

Pat Dontrelle is trying to become a "finese" pitcher after loosing about 3-4 mph on his fastball. Unless his command get alot better, I have a hard time seeing him making it, though I'll be rooting for him. Dave

I see Dontrellle being extracted from this rotation and roster before the end of May.

The problem is that (as I see it) the only way to extract him is to deal him, and the only way to deal him is to bundle him with another player - who has value.

Tht's how Dontrelle got here. That's likely how Dontrelle leaves.

But bundled with who?

Laird? - Not so much value - unless it's a National League team who needs a good defensive catcher and can eat a spot in the line-up.

Guillen? - probably a movable comodity right now - in either league.

And that stinks.

Willis will never be a decent pitcher unless he simplifies his wind up. You can't throw strikes if you are leaning backward and twisting yourself out of balance. He's worse than the 9 & 10 year olds I coach.

I for one think Dontrelle will be a least a 10 winner. Give him Six starts into the season before we through in the towell. Who is doing better? (certainly not Verlander so far) By the way his mother in the stands is so funny. Maybe she should stay home so Dontrelle will have less to be nervious about. Go Tigers. How many wins do you think he is gong to get thsi year Pat? I like to hear your over under on that.

Barry,
The good news for the Tigers they are 2-0 in games started by Willis, but they have won more despite of him, particularly in second outing.

Dave,
It's all about command. Part the reason he has lost velocity is because his control isn't as good and he's not cutting loose like he used to. Always guiding the ball.

Fred Brill,
It seems doubtful Bonderman or Willis will last long in the rotation. Would not serve Tigers well, though, if they put Coke in rotation. Value is great in bullpen.

Little League Coach,
Seems like Willis had the flexability to use that funky motion when he was in his early 20s, but not anymore as he has matured physically.
