I think the upside to that which is the Olympics far out weighs the few petty items you mentioned.
The Olympics tracks changes in our world like baseball does America. The fact that Germany hosted the games immediately prior to WWII and then a bombed out rubble flled London did immediately after the games - the prior host country then no longer existing as known before - incredible stuff.
I remember the Munich games - and that even was the first terrorist act to play out before an entire world - and our world has never been the same since.
I remember dreaming of being an olympic swimmer when Montreal had their turn - and trying to climb the AAU ladder in Georgia only to find out I was no where near what it took to be best in State let alone a country.
The Olympics are what they are Pat. They are where the greatest gather - and that can only mean commercialism and corruption. But man is it hard to get anything done these two weeks that it's on.

Caputo has a radio show weeknights and weekends on 97.1 FM, The Ticket, which is the flagship station for the Tigers, Lions and Red Wings. He also appears regularly on FOX 2 television on "SportsWorks."
