Red Wings have responded typically

Game on!

I also sensed a little too much....complacency or just overall lack of feistiness in this year's team. (Although, as you might know from many of my posts, I think their biggest problem isn't spiritual or emotional: it's that one dude on their roster who, periodically, on his best days, is actually capable of blocking shots in a manner somewhat similar to what we consider NHL goalies do.)

But now that's all water under the bridge. I don't have high expectations for the playoffs - I think a solid showing in the Western Conference Finals could be considered, technically, a success. (It really just feels to me like it's Vancouver's time to shine.) But if they're able to fight their way to the Stanley Cup Finals, I'd call this a triumphant year.

(And I think that a great showing in the playoffs is the only way that Howard's season could be called anything but a total bust.)

David Brennan,
Canucks, Sharks, Ducks, Hawks. There is plenty of competition in the Western Conference for the Red Wings. They aren't a lock by any means.
